About
Wolastoqewiyik Healing Lodge is an NNADAP-funded First Nations addiction treatment centre located at 13309 Route 105 in Tobique First Nation, New Brunswick. Operated as an official Canadian Substance Use Treatment Centre for First Nations and Inuit, the Healing Lodge combines clinical expertise with Indigenous traditional teachings — delivering culturally grounded residential recovery for Wolastoqewiyik (Maliseet) people and First Nations community members across New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada. The Lodge’s programme is built on the conviction that the path to recovery begins with each individual’s own commitment to change.
Residential Treatment and Relapse Prevention Programs
Wolastoqewiyik Healing Lodge offers two residential programmes: a five-week main treatment program and a three-week relapse prevention program for individuals who need additional support after previous treatment. The main programme addresses alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, opioid, and other substance use through individual counselling, group sessions, and educational programming focused on self-understanding and the nature of addiction. Relapse prevention programming provides structured support for those navigating the challenges of sustaining recovery, with targeted strategies for identifying and managing high-risk situations.
Clinical and Traditional Knowledge in Partnership
The Healing Lodge takes pride in the integration of clinical and traditional healing knowledge. Indigenous teachings, holistic practices, and cultural programming are woven alongside evidence-based counselling and nursing care — creating an approach that is both professionally rigorous and deeply meaningful for First Nations clients. Private rooms are available for added comfort and privacy. The programme is cellphone-free, creating the focused, distraction-free environment that supports genuine engagement with the healing process. An exercise room supports physical wellness as part of the holistic recovery model.
Prevention, Aftercare, and Cultural Safety
Wolastoqewiyik Healing Lodge’s commitment to the community extends beyond residential treatment through prevention programming, drug education, and aftercare services that support individuals at every stage of their recovery journey. The NNADAP funding ensures that services remain accessible to First Nations community members, and the Lodge’s location within Tobique First Nation means that healing happens on home territory — surrounded by the land, culture, and community relationships that are inseparable from Indigenous wellness. For First Nations individuals in New Brunswick seeking culturally safe, community-grounded addiction treatment, Wolastoqewiyik Healing Lodge is a trusted and vital resource.
