Thorpe Recovery Centre

Thorpe Recovery Centre is a leading residential addiction treatment facility located in Blackfoot, Alberta — approximately 10 km west of Lloydminster on Treaty 6 Territory. With a capacity of 84 clients and a structured 42-day program, Thorpe provides medically supported detox, immersive residential treatment, and comprehensive continuing care. Funded by both Alberta Health Services Addiction & Mental Health and the Saskatchewan Health Authority, the centre serves clients from across western Canada and holds Accreditation Canada standing along with full Government of Alberta licensing.

Medically Supported Detox and Residential Treatment

Thorpe’s 42-day program begins with medically supervised detox, ensuring clients are safely and comfortably stabilized before entering residential treatment. The residential phase combines individual substance abuse counselling, group therapy, relapse prevention programming, and 12-step integration. A holistic and faith-informed approach weaves wellness practices alongside evidence-based clinical care. Co-occurring mental health disorders are addressed alongside addiction, recognizing the strong link between mental health and substance use.

Family-Centred and Community Support

Thorpe recognizes that addiction affects the whole family. Dedicated family and friends programming helps loved ones understand addiction, heal relationships, and build the supportive home environment clients need for lasting recovery. An active alumni program and ongoing support meetings extend the community beyond discharge. Continuing care services ensure that the transition from residential treatment back to everyday life is supported every step of the way.

Funded, Accredited, and Evidence-Based

As a registered non-profit charitable organization, Thorpe is guided by a board of directors and committed to accessible, publicly funded care. Its Accreditation Canada certification (valid 2023–2027) and dual provincial funding from Alberta and Saskatchewan reflect the facility’s consistent quality and broad regional trust. Clinical leadership is provided by a team of licensed professionals including Clinical Director Vera Koster, BA, CCAC, CCRC, ACTA.
