About
Sunrise Native Addictions Services (NASS) has been a cornerstone of Indigenous-led addiction recovery in Calgary since 1974. Rooted in the traditions of Treaty 7 territory and guided by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s 94 Calls to Action, NASS blends evidence-based treatment with deep cultural grounding — offering a healing path that honours the whole person: body, mind, and spirit.
Culturally Integrated Treatment Programs
NASS offers both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs that weave Indigenous cultural practices into every stage of recovery. Clients participate in Elder-guided ceremonies, land-based healing activities, and spiritual recovery work alongside the 12-step program. The centre welcomes men, women, Two-Spirit, non-binary, and gender-fluid clients, and is proudly 2SLGBTQ+ affirming with trauma-informed care at its foundation.
Comprehensive Addictions Support
Treatment at NASS addresses a full range of addictions including alcohol, drugs, and gambling. The outpatient stream allows clients to maintain community connections while receiving structured counselling and cultural programming. Family recovery support is integrated into the program, recognizing that healing extends beyond the individual to the broader family and community unit.
Accreditation and Community Trust
NASS is licensed by the Alberta Government as an inpatient drug and alcohol treatment centre and holds Accreditation with Exemplary Standing from Accreditation Canada — one of the highest designations available to a Canadian healthcare facility. As a registered charity operating for over five decades, NASS has earned the deep trust of First Nations communities, Elders, and the broader Calgary region.
