Fresh Start Recovery Centre

Fresh Start Recovery Centre is a Calgary-based non-profit organization that has long been one of the city’s most trusted resources for men facing addiction. Built on the belief that “recovery happens in community — no one heals alone,” Fresh Start offers a continuum of care spanning long-term residential treatment, outpatient programming, sober living, and community outreach. With accreditation from Accreditation Canada and licensing by the Government of Alberta, the centre combines evidence-based treatment with a strong community-driven philosophy.

Community-Centred Recovery Model

Fresh Start’s approach is rooted in five core pillars: Hope, Acceptance, Connection, Courage, and Community. Programming integrates abstinence-based recovery, 12-step principles, and faith-based support within a gender-specific environment for men. Individual and group substance abuse counselling, along with structured assessment and aftercare planning, form the backbone of the program. The focus on community connection means clients don’t just get sober — they rebuild relationships and re-engage with life.

Full Continuum of Care

From initial assessment through residential treatment, supportive housing, and ongoing outreach, Fresh Start supports clients at every stage of their journey. Long-term residential programming gives men the time and stability they need to make deep, lasting changes. Sober living options provide a supported transition back to independent living. Outreach services extend the reach of the program into the broader community, while alumni engagement and family support programming (“Friends and Family: Coming Together”) help build the networks that sustain long-term recovery.

Fresh Start holds accreditation from Accreditation Canada and is licensed under Alberta’s Mental Health Services Practitioner Act (MHSPA) and by the Government of Alberta. As a registered charitable organization, the centre is accountable to its community and committed to delivering the highest standard of care. Its partnership with Alberta’s Recovery Oriented System of Care further embeds Fresh Start within a province-wide network of recovery support.
