About

Eagle’s Nest Recovery House is an NNADAP-funded Indigenous addiction recovery centre operated by NADACA (Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselling Association of Nova Scotia), located at 44 Eagles Nest Avenue in Indian Brook (Sipekne’katik First Nation), Nova Scotia. Recognized as an official Canadian Substance Use Treatment Centre for First Nations and Inuit, Eagle’s Nest provides outpatient counselling, drug prevention and education, relapse prevention, and aftercare services for Indigenous adults 19 and older in Nova Scotia — grounded in holistic, culturally appropriate approaches that reflect the values and traditions of Mi’kmaq people.

Indigenous Outpatient Addiction Counselling

Eagle’s Nest delivers individual and peer-based substance abuse counselling for Indigenous adults dealing with alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, opioid, and other substance use concerns. The programme requires clients to be free of drugs for 14 days or alcohol for 5 days prior to admission — ensuring that participants are in a stable enough state to engage meaningfully with counselling. Counsellors with CAC II certification provide both individual and peer counselling, combining clinical skills with cultural knowledge and a deep understanding of the Mi’kmaq community context.

Prevention, Education, and Youth Programming

Alongside direct counselling services, Eagle’s Nest invests in prevention through drug prevention and education programming for youth and community members. The adolescent education and accreditation stream, coordinated by a dedicated staff member, reflects the programme’s commitment to reaching young people before addiction takes hold. This prevention focus is consistent with NNADAP’s mandate to address substance use across the entire community continuum — from early prevention through treatment and ongoing recovery.

Holistic Recovery and Aftercare

Eagle’s Nest takes a holistic approach to recovery that addresses the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions of healing. Relapse prevention programming equips clients with the practical strategies and self-awareness needed to sustain recovery in the face of triggers and challenges. Aftercare support maintains the connection to recovery resources and peer community after formal counselling concludes. For Mi’kmaq and other First Nations people in Nova Scotia seeking culturally grounded, community-based addiction support, Eagle’s Nest Recovery House is a trusted and accessible resource.
