About
Benbowopka Treatment Centre is an Indigenous-led residential addiction treatment centre in Blind River, Ontario, on the north shore of Lake Huron. Founded through a collective vision of the North Shore Tribal Council and seven First Nations communities, Benbowopka has been serving community members since 1990 with a culturally based, harm-reduction approach to healing.
Culturally Grounded Treatment
Originally opened as the Anishnabie Naadmaagi Gamig Substance Abuse Treatment Centre, Benbowopka now operates as a harm-reduction residential program weaving Anishinaabe cultural practices into every aspect of treatment. The centre treats alcohol, cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, and opioid addictions alongside holistic and traditional healing.
Inpatient and Outpatient Programs
Benbowopka offers both inpatient residential and outpatient treatment options, providing flexibility to meet clients where they are in their recovery journey. The inpatient program offers immersive, community-based healing in a culturally safe environment.
Community Vision and Legacy
Rooted in the vision of seven First Nations communities who came together to address addiction, Benbowopka represents over three decades of Indigenous-led leadership in addiction recovery, honouring the cultural strengths of Anishinaabe people and the healing power of community.
